BLS + OXYGEN THERAPY

The Canadian Red Cross BLS (Basic Life Support) + Oxygen Therapy course is designed for healthcare professionals and pre-hospital responders who provide high-performance CPR and supplemental oxygen in both facility and emergency settings. This includes nurses, care aides, doctors, dentists, firefighters, lifeguards, and paramedics.

This combined course covers high-performance CPR (formerly HCP), rapid assessment, and defibrillation skills, including the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), along with essential Oxygen Therapy training.

Participants will learn how to recognize when supplemental oxygen is required and how to administer it safely and effectively, preparing them to respond confidently in a wide range of emergency situations.

BLS certification is valid for 1 year. BLS Recertification is available only for Red Cross certificate holders, provided certificates are full certifications (not prior recertifications) and are not expired.

Oxygen Therapy certification is valid for 3 years. No recertification option is available for Oxygen Therapy.

FAQs

Is BLS the right course for me?

The Red Cross BLS (Basic Life Support) class, formerly known as HCP (Health Care Provider), helps participants develop high-performance CPR for high-performance teams.

Participants develop confidence in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills in a team environment for professionals with a duty to respond. This course is intended for students and professionals in nursing, dental, fire service, sports-medicine, lifeguarding, and other rescue teams.

Is CPR the same as BLS?

No, CPR and BLS are not the same course, though they do contain some similar elements. BLS focuses on professional team CPR response.

CPR-C and AED courses are intended for the general public, and non-health care workplaces.

BLS is intended for health care workers, where an individual is expected to be proficient in applying a high level of skill with a team of advanced responders.

Is there an online only BLS course?

No, all BLS courses are 100% in person.

Avoid disappointment, and financial loss by registering into a course approved federally, and provincially such as those certified through the Canadian Red Cross.

Can I recertify my BSL certification?

Recertification can save you time and money. In order to recertify though, you must meet ALL of the following criteria:

You must be the holder of a BLS certificate from the Red Cross on your recertification date
The certificate must not be expired
The certificate must be a full course, and not a recertification.
